She<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> became active with the Northern Ireland peace movement after three children of her sister, Anne Maguire, were run over and killed by a car driven by a member of the Irish Republican Army.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> She co-founded, with\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Betty_Williams_(Nobel_laureate)\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Betty Williams<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ciaran_McKeown\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ciaran McKeown<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Women for Peace, which later became the Community for Peace People, an organisation dedicated to encouraging a peaceful resolution of\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Troubles\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Troubles<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Northern Ireland<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Mairead and Betty were awarded the 1976\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nobel_Peace_Prize\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nobel Peace Prize<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 In June 2010, Mairead went on board the\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rachel_Corrie#MV_Rachel_Corrie\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MV\u00a0<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rachel Corrie<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0as part of a flotilla that unsuccessfully attempted to breach the Israeli blockade on Gaza.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>QUOTE:<\/b> <em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today this collective punishment by Israeli Government policies goes on. Why has it lasted so long?
